A lot of our problems in a relationship are not problems between us, but problems with ourselves that we each bring into the relationship.

This is true for not just romantic relationships, but also other relationships.

Raising Issa has been such a powerful reminder of how unresolved personal issues can affect our relationships with those around us.

I try to catch myself when a reaction I have to something Issa does, or something someone on the playground does to Issa, is a reaction I’m having to my own past, my own issues that are works in progress.

Issa is pure, and the more purely I can be in the moment, the better parent I can be for him.
