One of the first things I learned working in teams was that, if people don't speak up, it's not necessarily because they are shy, or checked out, or bored. It's very likely because we have not done a good job creating enough SPACE for everyone.
Speaking less is a management art, and too many managers (myself included) are guilty of taking up too much space.
Inclusion is not always about race -- it's also about space.
